As we talked, we discovered that both of us had Working Holiday experiences. Eri spent one year in Canada, and Naho spent two years in Australia.

But the truth?

Eri was laughed at for her pronunciation. Naho was even scolded by coworkers for not understanding English.

It was embarrassing, frustrating, and lonely.

We were afraid to join native speakers’ circles.

Little by little, we lost our confidence.
